Why Do People Cling to the Lone Nut Theory

  1. They always go with the establishment. They think the people in the establishment are smarter than the critics because they (the members of the establishment) are either rich or famous. They don’t ask why the people on television (the establishment) are rich or famous; they don’t or can’t make the connection that maybe those establishment people are rich and famous is precisely because they go along with the establishment.
  2. They think Jesus will strike them down dead if they have a contrarian thought.
  3. They have kids and want to set what they think is a good example by going along.
  4. They don’t want to be perceived as negative.
  5. They have only seen the Oliver Stone movie, but nevertheless consider themself an expert.
  6. They don’t understand or comprehend the vast body of work that has been undertaken by the critics.
  7. They don’t want to know the truth.
  8. They don’t have the time or inclination to know the truth.
  9. They have better things to do.
  10. They enjoy repeating cliches.
  11. Having no ego, they invest their ego in their favorite news analyst. What he or she thinks, they think.
