Louie Steven Witt 2

In addition to what I have discussed before about Mr. Witt (LSW), it should also be noted that the alleged LSW in the famous Altgens photograph is not wearing glasses. This may be important because Mr. Witt during his testimony before the HSCA does whip out a pair of glasses just as he is asked to testify about exhibits 130 and 404. He pulled them out of his left interior suit coat pocket, but does not put them on. He is pulling them out instinctively to look at a photo that is on an easel some distance away. He fondles the glasses throughout much of the rest of his testimony.

Clearly LSW has myopia. Myopia is typically acquired in childhood between 6 and 14 years of age. It would be reasonable to assume that LSW like most people with myopia has used glasses his entire adult life. If this is the case, then why do we not see glasses on the alleged Mr. Witt in the photos? Is it likely that a man with myopia would walk the street of Dallas intent on seeing the President but would forget to wear his glasses? Unlikely.

Now, there are a significant number of people who develop myopia after the age of 40. So it is possible Mr. Witt developed the need for glasses after the Kennedy assassination. Mr. Witt was born in 1924 and the assassination occurred in 1963. Mr. Witt would’ve been 39 years of age.

Another factor that must be discussed is why Umbrella Man (UM) and Dark Complected Man (DCM), aka Walkie Talkie Man are sitting next to each other after the assassination. Prior to the assassination DCM was standing on the curb a full 6 feet in front of UM. LSW states that he as UM did not know DCM. Well, then why would DCM come back and sit 6 inches away from UM? That seems strange, does it not.

It would be akin to sitting next to a stranger in a near empty movie theater. Additionally, if DCM was indeed negro, as LSW as UM had told us he was, the idea of a negro man in a racist city such as Dallas was in 1960 voluntarily approximating himself next to a white man would seem unlikely. Dallas was a socially segregated city in 1960. Taboos and intimidation existed.

For those reasons it is logical to conclude that UM and DCM were not sitting next to each other out of randomness or mutual support after an egregious incident; they were sitting next to each other because they were conferring vital information.

Given these arguments here in this article and the prior, I don’t think one can validate LSW as UM. The story doesn’t hold up under questioning.

The question then becomes as to why LSW would testify that he was UM. Let us talk about that.

  1. Perhaps LSW was just another individual with passing resemblance to UM who saw a door to his 15 minutes of fame. Who is there to testify in support of him walking down to Dealey Plaza that day? 1960 was a world devoid of cell phone cameras. Perhaps a television station of the day has video archival footage that shows LSW walking to Dealey Plaza. Or possibly someone captured a chance photograph of him on Main Street with the umbrella in hand. Devoid of that, no one has come forward to vouch for his story.
  2. LSW has some type of psychological disorder loaning itself to prevarication and fraud.
  3. LSW was recruited by the CIA or other intelligence services. I can’t think of a compelling reason why the CIA would want to compound its headaches by introducing new wrinkles into the assassination saga. UM as a signal man is just a theory; not hard core evidence. In spite of that, the CIA is comprised of people, and people often think irrationally.

Option 1 seems most likely; if so the CIA certainly was not going to stand in his way. It is possible that LSW did walk down to Main Street that day. Maybe he did see the President go by in his motorcade. Maybe LSW did indeed own a black umbrella. Maybe over the years, Mr. Witt convinced himself that he was the UM.

I think this is the most likely scenario. LSW Was just a guy who innocently confabulated himself into believing that he was in the middle of a history making moment. The authorities and the CIA we’re not going to stand in his way. They certainly weren’t going to try and disprove his claim.
