I write this for myself to keep matters straight.
Lee Oswald was arrested at the Texas Theater by the DPD. As such he was taken to the DPD headquarters on Harwood and Main (1). The DPD was so big that it took an entire city block, so it sat on Harwood between Main and Commerce. Jesse Curry was the police chief of the DPD.
Oswald was to be transported via undisclosed route to the County Jail (2) which sits at the intersection of Main and Houston. This s where the Dallas County Sheriff’s office was. It sits across the street (Main) from the Old Red Court House. The Sheriff was Bill Decker. One of his deputies was Roger Craig. This is where they worked.
The Sheriff’s office sits on the edge of Dealey Plaza. JFK’s motorcade first entered downtown Dallas form Harwood. As such JFK traveled right by the DPD as his motorcade took a right hand turn onto Main. The motorcade then traveled down Main to Main and Houston, right by the Sheriff’s office where it took a right hand turn on Houston before taking the hard left on Elm.
Why was LHO transported? Why wasn’t the DPD jail good enough? Probably because the DPD is only a holding jail ; it’s not designed for long-term use. It’s a jail for processing people.
It’s ironic that Oswald was to be transported back to the scene of the crime, and that he was to take the same route that JFK did to his death. Both men were eventually transported from Dealey Plaza to Parkland Hospital where both were declared dead.

The Dallas Morning News (3) sits at Young and Houston. This is where Jack Ruby was hanging out on the morning of 11/22/63.

Following is the Sheriff’s Office where the County Jai sits. It sits across Main street from the Old Red Court House.

Dealey Plaza sits across the street. Here is an overhead view.

The big white building at the bottom right is the Post Office Terminal Annex building. It was in this building that LHO allegedly rented post office box # 6225 under the alias A.J. Hidell. When Oswald purchased the mail order rifle allegedly used in the murder attempt on General Walker and later the assassination of JFK he allegedly had the gun delivered to his post office box in this building.
